Abstract
Successful product development requires simulation of complex environments. Design, validation and qualification engineering groups must perform these simulations to valid flight vehicles as well as to validate and optimize engineering designs. Economic factors limit the capital, facility and staff available to perform these tests. Advantages in performing these tests more quickly and safely translates into competitive advantage in allowing products to reach market more quickly and insure they perform as designed under the extreme stresses of a space launch. Acoustic as well as Vibration environments must be applied on test articles to specifications determined from actual flights and launches. Figure 1 is an example of a space launch environment. The white cloud seen during the space shuttle launch is not smoke it is water vapor. This is over 1 million gallons of water used to dampen the rocket exhausts sound level and the water vaporizes during the launch.
