In many problems it is necessary to define various surface regions on an FE subsystem (structural, acoustic or PEM). These surface regions may, for example, represent regions where poroelastic noise control treatments (NCTs) or area isolators are applied to an FE subsystem. Alternatively, they may represent regions where an FE subsystem is coupled to an adjacent SEA acoustic cavity, semi-infinite fluid, BEM fluid or area loading (i.e. diffuse acoustic field, turbulent boundary layer, propagating wavefield, velocity constraint). In VA One these surface regions are represented by an object called an FE Face. In addition, FE faces can be used to define rigid, fluid hole and data recovery surfaces for a BEM fluid and the boundary conditions of a PEM subsystem.
