Job Title:  Senior Engineer, Transducers                                 Date:  25 Sept 2010         

Department:    Acoustics Asia                                 FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To:   Principal Engineer, Transducers, Acoustics Asia

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Engineer Transducers, Asia
Associate Engineer Transducers, Asia

Team size max 4


Essential Responsibilities:



•        Supervise a small a team of Transducer Engineers with primary responsibility / accountability for the initiation and development of feasible, cost effective and reliable transducer designs from concept through to production, supporting both customer vehicle and Harman R&D projects.

•        Support NPD/R&D projects and supervise Transducer Engineers as team members with responsibility and accountability for all Transducer Engineering activities.

•         Participate in the development of common work practices, procedures and design standards with other Audio Systems design groups within Harman Automotive.

•        Conduct simulations using Harman proprietary and commercial Finite Element Analysis software

•        Supervise the integrity of acoustic and environmental testing of loudspeakers

•        Ensure that the necessary documentation is provided that defines and verifies transducer designs. Documentation includes sketches, BOMs, analytical/modeling data, acoustic data sheets, DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, etc.

•        Keep abreast of the latest developments in world-class best practice in relation to audio product design, development, modeling / analysis, materials and manufacturing techniques.

•        Prepare technical reports and presentations per customer requirements, and prepare technical reports and presentations for Harman management, peers, and direct reports, as necessary. Prepare papers suitable for presentation at conferences.

•        Provide continuing technical support for production level product and guidance for the resolution of various customer and interdepartmental issues, as required.

•        Support departmental initiatives and activities as directed by the department supervisor.




Basic Qualifications:


Competency:        Strong knowledge of the simulation, design, manufacturing, testing and durability of loudspeakers.

Language:        Fluency in English (written & verbal) is required.
       
Education:        Degree required.

Certifications:        None required.

Experience:        Minimum five years related experience in transducer design.  Previous manufacturing operations experience of transducers is essential.

Required Skills:



1.        Demonstrated self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced global automotive design & manufacturing environments.

2.        Strong written and oral communication skills, particularly in English.

3.        Strong knowledge of the design and manufacturing principles used to create and manufacture transducers.

4.        Strong knowledge of FEA  techniques for loudspeaker simulation.

5.        Detail oriented.  Demonstrates the ability to transition from theoretical to implementation based thinking.  Strong analytical skills.



Eligibility Requirements:


•        Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
•        Willingness to work in an office in Suzhou
•        Willingness to submit to a background screen and a drug test
