second order theory is devoted to analysis of large deformation of elastic solid. Conventional first order theory is based upon the assumption that displacement is infinitesimal so that the strain is the first derivative of displacement neglecting the second derivative of the displacement. When we deal with the problem with large deformation, it is necessary to consider second derivative of the displacement, that is second order theory.
